Aim of the coursesThese courses are designed to provide you with the knowledge required to get the most out of Reference Manager's extensive capabilities and demostrate how to customise Reference Manager to match your requirements.
Day 1: Using Reference ManagerWho should attend? This course is designed as an in depth introduction for new users and anyone thinking about using Reference Manager.
During the day you will learn about:
- The database and record structure
- Searching Reference Manager databases
- Direct Import into Reference Manager from online database (e.g. Web of Knowledge, HubMed)
- Searching online databases via Reference Manager (e.g. PubMed, z39.50 sites)
- Importing references via text files
- Working with the Term Manager and create a phrase list
- Useful hints, tips and shortcuts
- Generating bibliographies within Microsoft Word
- Creating Subject Bibliographies
Day 2: Customising Reference Manager
Who should attend? This course is ideal for anyone who already has a good working knowledge of using Reference Manager or has attended the Using Reference Manager course, and would like to find out how to customise the software to suit their needs.
Before attending this course you must be familiar with the following:
- Importing references from on-line databases using 'Direct Export', 'Import Text File' and 'Internet Search',
- Searching for references in a Reference Manager database,
- Using Cite-While-You-Write.
During the day you will learn how to:
- Create and use Reference Indexes
- Edit Connection Files for new remote databases
- Edit and create Import Filters
- Edit and create Output Styles
- Publish a database using Web Publisher

After starting his working life as a Research and Development Electronics engineer in the defence industry, Bob Green moved into Computer System sales, before finding his true vocation in training. He now has over 16 years' experience in this field. In addition to delivering Adept's bibliographic software training, he is responsible for the training and development of all Adept's staff. He has the ability to communicate even the most complicated features in a way everyone can understand. Bob is a great believer in making learning a fun experience, and his courses are delivered in an interactive environment where he is always keen to hear your point of view. |
